Roof repairs in Melbourne

Cracked tiles, failed ridge capping, rusted valleys or a roof that leaks every time the wind swings southerly — we repair and restore Melbourne roofs properly, and we tell you honestly when a repair is enough and when it isn't. If you're after roof repairs near you anywhere in greater Melbourne, we can help.

What we repair

Nova Roof Repairs works on tile, Colorbond, metal and slate roofs across Melbourne. Most jobs start the same way: we get up on the roof, photograph what we find and explain it in plain language before any work is quoted.

  • Cracked, slipped or broken roof tiles
  • Ridge capping repointing and rebedding
  • Rusted or leaking valley irons
  • Storm and wind damage repairs
  • Flashing around chimneys, skylights and vents
  • Loose or corroded metal roof sheets and screws

Why Melbourne roofs fail

Melbourne's swing between hot, dry summers and cold, wet winters is hard on roofing. Bedding mortar dries out and cracks, then a single storm lifts the ridge caps. Concrete tiles laid in the 1960s–80s across the eastern and south-eastern suburbs lose their surface glaze and start soaking up water. Older inner-north homes often have short-run galvanised valleys that rust through long before the rest of the roof is finished.

The result is usually the same: water enters somewhere well away from where the stain shows up inside. Finding the actual entry point is most of the job — see our roof leak repairs page for how we trace leaks.

Repair or restore?

A handful of cracked tiles and one tired ridge line is a repair. A roof where the pointing has gone right around, the tiles are porous and the valleys are rusting is better restored in one go — it costs less than repairing the same roof three times over five years. We'll tell you which one you're looking at, with photos.

What to look for as a homeowner

  • Sand or mortar crumbs in the gutters — a sign the ridge pointing is breaking down.
  • Damp or discoloured patches on ceilings and cornices after heavy rain.
  • Moss and lichen growth, which holds moisture against the tiles.
  • Rust streaks running down from valleys or fixings.
  • Any quote given without someone actually getting on the roof.
